A mum has said she wants to ban attendance rewards at schools. She says it is 'unfair' for children who have disabilities and medical conditions.
Taking to Mumsnet, Sophie says her son has a medical condition which means he has to attend appointments in school time. It has meant her son would not get 100% attendance.
She said: "Our school gives out certificates for 100% attendance and he rarely gets these. There is now talk of starting a scheme where the whole class is rewarded each day everyone is in.

"I don’t think this is fair to children who have disabilities or medical conditions that may make them need to miss school, totally outside of their control. Also - should we really reward children purely because they don’t catch any nasty bugs? Hardly seems fair!"
Sophie received mixed responses to her post. One person said: "Attendance awards are ableist." Whilst another person added: "You need to tackle the government policies that drive this, not the schools."
Someone else said: "Good attendance is vitally important in schools so it is worth rewarding. Can you not just explain to your son that this is one award he is unlikely to get but through no fault of his own?"
