Mum loses over 11 stone after doctor warned her that junk food diet was killing her

A mother lost more than 11 stone after a doctor told her junk food diet was killing her.

Kelayne Fannan, who was 21st 4lb, said: “I couldn’t walk five minutes without my back and knees hurting.

“My type 2 diabetes was getting worse and my GP said if I didn’t change my lifestyle I’d die young.”

Kelayne’s weight had soared since 2013 after her marriage broke down and she had a motorbike accident.

Three weeks after her trip to the doctor in 2018 she had lost half a stone with the help of a slimming group in Hayling Island, Hants.

Instead of downing Indian takeaways, creamy pasta and sugary snacks she switched to fruit, salads, salmon and plenty of water.

The 51-year-old, who has three grown-up daughters, said: “Before I joined the group I did no exercise. Food was a coping mechanism.

“I felt so low and was eating so many crisps, chocolates and sweets that my skin would have breakouts and I’d suffer crippling migraines.

“The group helped me understand that food is nutritious and not something to punish myself with.

“I eat lots of veg and fruit and for dinner I’ll make baked salmon with boiled brown rice or cook a Slimming World’s spaghetti bolognese.”

Kelayne found that as she lost weight she gained confidence. She said: “I started to be more active.

“I joined a dance class which brought me closer to my family and friends as we dance together.”

Most importantly, the weight loss reversed her diabetes, a contributor to heart attacks and strokes.

The online gift store director, now just over 10 stone and a dress size 10, said: “My diabetes specialist said I was their star patient.

“Losing weight hasn’t just changed my life, it saved my life. I’m literally half the person I was
