Mum fumes after 'inconsiderate' bride won't make wedding accessible for her disabled daughter

An 'inconsiderate' bride has received backlash from her sister after she decided to have a beachfront wedding which her disabled niece will struggle to attend. Her eight-year-old relative, Mia, uses a wheelchair which means it will be difficult for her to be present at the location - but her aunt knew this in advance and booked the venue anyway.

As a result, the child's mum, who is the bride's sister, angrily lashed out at the 'audacious' couple and said she's now thinking of not attending herself, the Mirror reports. The couple said that Mia could come along in a special wheelchair designed for the sand but the parent would have to fork out $110 (£90) to rent it for the day.

The frustrated single mum took to Reddit's 'Am I the A*****e' thread to explain her upset as she wrote: "I truly have never been more shocked and disappointed in my sister "It's already so difficult raising a child with disabilities without a partner, but when even family is this inconsiderate and cruel, it's truly the worst feeling."

She continued: "Mia has been disabled since the day she was born and needs wheelchair assistance and constant care whenever she is awake. I absolutely love her to death and it's only been us during this entire journey, so I'm definitely super protective of my little girl."

She went on to say that her sister is soon to be married and she was taken aback to learn that the entire ceremony would be held at a local beach followed by a bonfire and a barbecue in the sand. The mum was left flabbergasted after her sister said she 'sent the official invite because of Mia'.

She added: "You would think she would at least check in with me before she reserved the beach space because Mia obviously can’t come. And now she's only telling me because it's set in stone and there’s nothing she can change."

The woman said her daughter will be 'absolutely heartbroken' that she won't be able to go to her beloved aunt's wedding. The couple did ensure that the beach has a wheelchair that Mia could use said they could not afford to pay for the expense so her mother would have to.

The mum fumed: "The audacity to ask your guests to be paying just to make it to the event (especially when she knows I cannot afford this)" The couple have always dreamed of getting married at the beach because of where they met.

Fellow Reddit users flocked to the comments to give their mixed opinions on the awkward dilemma. One popular response which received over 1,000 likes said: "I have a daughter in a wheelchair and it's really freaking hard to be left out.

"That being said, please know that sometimes in life you have to accept that you can't do everything and that's just the way it is. Your sister has a right to be married anywhere she wants.

"Take a step back, breathe deeply and wish them a lovely time." However, another user disagreed as they wrote: "Going against the grain to say YNTA [you're not the a*****e. They decided on a venue with a strong emotional attachment.

"Can't fault them for that. I do think it's an a*****e move for them to go for a venue they know would be difficult for their niece and NOT foot the bill to accommodate her. Common decency seems to have been lost on them and I don't blame you for being upset about it."

The commenter added: "Being a single mother is already such a difficult situation. You love your daughter endlessly and that's already such a beautiful thing. Keep your head up, Mama. Mia is lucky to have you."
