North West Motorway Police have arrested a suspected drunk driver after the motorist was involved in a road traffic collision on the M60 on Sunday evening. Officers, along with National Highways, attended the scene after the Volkswagen car was reported to have left the road and crashed into a safety barrier.
Police say that when they breathalysed the driver, they found them to be more than four times over the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The motorist was duly detained.
The car was also worse for wear after the accident, although it is unclear whether the driver suffered any injuries. None were reported by the police on the scene.
In an ironic twist of fate, officers were quick to highlight a sticker displayed on the car that said, ‘I’m not drunk, just avoiding the potholes’. “We beg to differ,” remarked North West Motorway Police.
