Before getting behind the wheel, there are safety checks that we all carry out before leaving the driveway or the car park.
However, if you are on your way to your annual MOT, then there are a few other safety checks that you will want to carry out. It comes as a reminder from LeaseCar.uk, according to the Express, who have complied a list of six checks that people may not be thinking about.
A spokesman from LeaseCar said: “We are approaching peak MOT season when traditionally the most MOTs are carried out. The time of the year when an MOT is due is one of the most nerve-wracking moments for drivers.

“It’s extremely important to carry out unusual checks such as removing an air freshener and checking reversing lights, to make sure everything is in top form.
“We wanted to offer these useful tips to help drivers make these checks, which they may not have thought of before sending the car off for inspection.”
So to ensure that your vehicle passes its MOT, what should you check? Here's what the experts say...
1. Cracks on the number plate
Whilst many are aware that covering your plate is a massive no-no, you will need to make sure that it also has no cracks as this could be the difference between a pass or a fail.
2. Reversing lights
Coming into force a few years ago back in 2018, vehicles used from September 2009 must have working reversing lights. If not, you will fail your MOT.
So before you leave, test your lights and if broken, get them fixed as soon as possible.
3. Rubber seal on fuel cap
A strong smell of petrol and a cap which won’t seal likely means that the fuel cap has worn out. This is something that you should be checking whilst filling up the car.
4. Frayed seatbelts
As time goes on, it is not uncommon for seatbelt to become frayed. However if this happens, it is advised that you address this issue. This is because once the condition worsens, it can become a danger to those in the seat.
5. Fill up on screen wash
One of the most unusual checks that many don't think about is screen wash.
To ensure you get a green tick against their name, motorists should simply purchase a ready-to-use screen wash and fill up the fluid bottle.
6. Number plate lights
It is a legal requirement to have fully functioning licence plate lights. This is so that cameras, and the police, can easily read the plate and identify a vehicle.
You should double-check this issue even before an MOT is due, as it can lead to a fixed penalty fine.
