A tract of land in Blaenavon will come up for auction later this month.
The 113 acre site, with a price tag of £45,000-plus, will be offered for sale through by Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions
The land on the north side of Blaenavon Road, is currently owned by Costain, which acquired the site to assist with the A465 Heads of the Valleys road scheme. The land has previously been used for grazing and agriculture, which is the most likely future use. The land has common land rights associated with the grazing of animals.
Angie Davey, of Paul Fosh Auctions said; “This is a very rare opportunity to purchase a large plot of land, extending to some 113 acres. The land, which is being sold with common land rights, is adjacent to the UNESCO world heritage site of Blaenavon.“
"The site is of historic importance and has remained largely undisturbed for many centuries, a living remnant of medieval times.”
Fosh said the land already generated interest ahead of the auction.
Ms Davey said: “It’s a popular misconception that common land is land owned by the general public and to which everyone has unrestricted right of access. All common land is private property, whether the owner is an individual or a corporation. Historically, the owner of the common was normally the lord of the manor.
“The area is a major tourist attraction with thousands of people from home and abroad descending on the area every year to enjoy the historic scenery, walk, cycle and mountain bike in the region.
“The main attractions such as Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Ironworks, the World Heritage Centre and Blaenavon Heritage Railway, are all just a few minutes’ drive or walk from each other.
The next Paul Fosh auction will run from July 26th to 28th.
