Missing boater's body found after multi-day search

Police have been searching for the man since he fell into the water on Tuesday night. (HANDOUT/MARINE RESCUE NSW)

Police believe they have found the body of a missing boater who fell into the water at a popular Murray River holiday spot.

Emergency services began searching for the 23-year-old man on Tuesday night and were in the water all through Wednesday, responding to reports he had fallen from a boat ramp in Moama.

But police confirmed they located the man's body at about 9.45am on Thursday, south of the boat ramp.

The third day of the multi-agency search - which included police divers from  NSW and Victoria and Marine Rescue NSW volunteers - began about 7am with the body found soon after.

Police said the body was not yet formally identified, but they believed it was the missing 23-year-old.

They will prepare a report for the coroner.

An estimated 1.5 million people visit the border towns of Echuca and Moama each year, with the two towns on either side of the Murray River functioning as one community.

The area is popular with campers and visitors seeking out water sports.
