Met Eireann forecasts temperatures to plummet below freezing this weekend

A big drop in temperature is forecast for tomorrow night, according to Met Eireann.

Friday night will see temperatures dip below freezing, hitting -1 degrees in parts of the country. Unsettled weather is expected for the weekend with a mix of sunshine and showers.

Meanwhile, tonight will see scattered showers and cloud break out, although the rainfall will ease later in the night. It will be chilly, with highest temperatures ranging from 4 to 5 degrees in a moderate westerly wind.

The forecast for the rest of the week suggests unsettled conditions, with wet and windy weather likely. Met Eireann’s national forecast is listed below.

Friday

Tomorrow will be dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees in a moderate westerly wind. Friday night will see a big dip in temperatures, falling between -1 and +3 degrees.

Saturday

Clearer spells and scattered showers will extend from the west during the evening and winds will become westerly, however the rain will linger in the east until the late evening. Highest temperatures of 6 to 12 degrees.

Saturday night

There will be clear spells and scattered showers. The showers will be most frequent over the western half of the country. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in a moderate to fresh and blustery westerly wind.

Sunday

Bright and breezy with sunshine and scattered showers. They will be most frequent over the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees in a moderate to fresh westerly wind.

Sunday night

Wet and breezy as rain moves east over the country and winds strengthen. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees.
