Meghan Markle started bitter feud with Donald Trump - and Harry was dragged into row

Donald Trump has heavily criticised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over the years - and it all stems from the former US President feeling insulted by one of her interviews.

The ex-Apprentice boss has called Harry "whipped", claimed he was "not a fan" of Meghan "from day one", while also claiming she was "disrespectful" to the late Queen.

Trump has also given a warning to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, whose controversial Netflix docuseries airs once again this week, predicting that their marriage will "end bad" and she will ditch Harry for "some other guy".

Despite Trumps' claims it wasn't always this way, as he was previously very complimentary of the couple, even after he was heavily criticised by Meghan.

Somewhat surprisingly, it was in fact the former Suits actress who struck the first blow that started their beef.

Before the 2016 election, which of course was won by Trump, Meghan came out strongly in favour of his political rival, Hilary Clinton.

During an appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in May that year, Meghan suggested she would leave the US if Trump got into the White House.

"It's really the moment that I go, we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada," she said on the Comedy Central show.

"I mean come on, if that's reality we are talking about, come on, that is a game changer in terms of how we move in the world here."

At the time, Meghan believed there would be enough momentum against Trump to stop him becoming President, but she was of course wrong.

"Yes of course Trump is divisive. Think about just female voters alone," she added.

"I think it was in 2012, the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. That's a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is and so vocal about it, that's a huge chunk of it.

"You're not just voting for a woman if it's Hillary because she's a woman, but certainly because Trump has made it easy to see that you don't really want that kind of world that he's painting."

But it doesn't seem like Trump was very interested in the opinion of the Suits actress at the time, as he didn't respond to her claims.

Meghan obviously went on to meet Harry and they got married in May 2018 in front of a number of celebrity guests, including David Beckham, Ophrah Winfrey and the Clooneys.

One person who didn't get the call up was Trump, but perhaps surprisingly he didn't seem too upset and wished the happy couple all the best.

During an interview with long-time Meghan hater Piers Morgan before the big day, Trump said: "I want them to be happy. I really want them to be happy. They look like a lovely couple.

Piers then tried to stir the pot by bringing up Meghan's 'divisive misogynist' remark, but Trump wasn't going to be goaded.

He simply replied: "I still want them to be happy."

But things changed just a few months later when Trump was once again asked about the comments the duchess made about him.

It actually seemed that Trump was genuinely upset - but he managed to not fly off the handle.

"I didn't know that. What can I say," he replied, then added: "I didn't know that she was nasty."

This was during the former US President's state visit to the UK, where he met members of the royal family including the Queen.

He was then asked about Meghan's suggestion she would leave America for Canada if he was elected, to which he retorted: "A lot of people are moving here [to the US]."

Trump sweetly claimed Meghan would make "a very good" American princess, and said of her joining the royal family: "It is nice, and I am sure she will do excellently.

"She will be very good. I hope she does [succeed]."

So when did Trump start to turn sour towards Meghan? In recent years he has frequently spoken out against her and Prince Harry.

Harry and Meghan urged people to vote (Internet Unknown)

The couple urged Americans to "reject hate speech" and vote in the 2020 presidential elections - prompting Trump to lash out.

Part of the reason it caused such a stir is that the royal family traditionally do not vote or become involved in elections or political matters.

But the Palace highlighted the fact the pair were no longer working royals and made the remarks in a "personal capacity".

During a press briefing in September that year, he said: "I'm not a fan of hers and I would say this, and she has probably heard this, I wish a lot of luck to Harry — because he's going to need it."

Meghan got her chance to reply when she was asked what it was like to be insulted by a sitting President during a filmed Fortune Magazine interview.

"If you look back at anything I've said, it's really interesting, what ends up being inflammatory it seems is peoples' interpretation of it. But if you listen to what I actually say it's not controversial," explained Meghan.

"And actually some of it is reactionary to things that just haven't happened, which in some ways you have to have a sense of humour about even though there's a lot of gravity.

"And there can be a lot of danger and misinterpretation of something that was never there to begin with. That again is a biproduct of what is happening to all of us."

Two months later, Trump claimed Meghan had been "disrespectful" to the Queen and the royals during an interview with Nigel Farage.

He said that Harry had been "used terribly" by his wife and that one day he "will regret" the way that his relationship with the rest of his family has become.

Trump said of Meghan in an interview for GB News: "I'm not a fan of hers. I wasn't from day one. I think Harry has been used horribly and I think someday he will regret it.

"I think Harry's been used and been used terribly. I think it's ruined his relationship with his family, and it hurts the Queen."

He continued: "I think she's been very disrespectful to the Queen, who's such a great woman, such a great person, a historic person. I think she's very disrespectful to the Royal Family and most importantly to the Queen."

Farage also asked Trump about the claims that Meghan has used her royal title when getting involved in US politics.

Trump said: "She is trying to do things that I think are very inappropriate."

In April this year, Trump really hit out at the Sussexes during a series of rants on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

Speaking fondly about the late Queen, Trump said he thought she should have fully removed all of their royal titles.

"The only thing I disagree with the Queen on, probably one of the only things ever, is that I think she should have said, 'If that's your choice, fine. But you no longer have titles', you know, and frankly, don't come around where you're just, because her loyalty is to the country," Trump said.

"She said that many times. Her loyalty is to the country. And I think that he has been so disrespectful to the country, and it’s a great country."

The businessman continued: "You know, here's my issue with it. I think that they've quit the country, they quit royal duty, they're living in luxury and California.

"They want to use their royal titles to exploit them for massive financial gain. Without any of the duty that comes with the royal titles. I don’t think you can have your royal cake and eat it. That's my argument about it."

Trump then claimed Harry is "whipped", asking Piers if he knew the expression.

He went on: "I won't use the full expression, but Harry is whipped like no person I think I've ever seen."

Trump also told Morgan that he really doesn't think Harry and Meghan's marriage is going to last - even suggesting she'd dump him for someone else.

"So I want to know what's going to happen when Harry decides he's had enough of being bossed around," he said.

"Or maybe when she decides that she likes some other guy better. I want to know what's going to happen when it ends, okay.

"It'll end and it'll end bad. And I wonder if Harry's gonna go back on his hands and knees back into the beautiful city of London and say, please. You know, I think Harry has been led down a path," he added.

The couple did not reply to any of the accusations - but it seems unlikely that this war of words will ever end.
