Man rescued after injuring arm and hip on Wicklow hiking trail

A walker who sustained painful injuries to his arm and hip was rescued from a Wicklow hiking trail.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a man, 27, who has fallen on Sunday, February 20 shortly before 1pm in Knockraheen near Roundwood.

Due to his injuries, the team decided to treat him as a spinal casualty, and were careful when moving the man after he was located.

The crew consisting of members from the Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue assessed the patient who was then carried back to safety to an ambulance in the car park.

It was a busy week for the mountain rescue team as the crew also rushed to rescue a lone hiker who had become disorientated near Stoney Top.

Strong winds and heavy rain lead to extremely poor weather conditions when the man got lost during his hike on Saturday, February 19.

Thankfully a mountain rescue response vehicle found the hiker near Glenmacnass Waterfall.

The man was returned to his car after being examined by a medic.
