A South Australian man has been stabbed after he confronted a group he accused of stealing a 16 year old's shoes and backpack.

Police say the 36-year-old man was assaulted by the group at Kurralta Park, southwest of Adelaide, about 4am on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a number of stab wounds but in a non-life threatening condition.

Police believe the Klemzig man confronted the group after they allegedly stole the shoes and backpack of a 16-year-old boy near a service station on the Anzac Highway.

Detectives are investigating the stabbing, with police to attend the Kurralta Park scene on Tuesday morning.
