Recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott revealed that state authorities, in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security, are currently engaged in an immigration and law enforcement operation in Colony Ridge. This large development has gained notoriety for attracting a significant number of illegal immigrants.
Located just a short drive away from Houston, Colony Ridge is a housing community that markets land with low down payments, primarily targeting Spanish-speaking individuals. It is estimated that thousands of undocumented immigrants reside in this area, which has also been linked to cartel activities and a sparse police presence.
Governor Abbott, a Republican, announced the targeted operation in Colony Ridge, emphasizing the focus on apprehending criminals and illegal immigrants. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers and special agents are working in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations to carry out this operation.
Abbott disclosed that he has been coordinating this operation with President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, for several months. Despite concerns about jeopardizing the operation by making the announcement, Abbott clarified that the operation was already in progress before his public statement.
While a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson declined to provide details about the operation to maintain operational secrecy and ensure the safety of agents involved, local sources confirmed the presence of DPS and ICE operations in the area.
Reports from residents, such as Roberto Alfaro, described witnessing undercover ICE agents making arrests in Colony Ridge. Alfaro expressed fear for his family's potential deportation and mentioned attempting to warn others about the ongoing enforcement actions.
The Trump administration has intensified immigration enforcement efforts since assuming office, including a series of ICE raids across various cities. Former ICE director Tom Homan, speaking at a conservative conference, highlighted the significant number of illegal alien arrests made in the initial month of the Trump administration and emphasized the administration's commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the country.
