Man 'cut from car' after van smashes into house in Heywood

A man had to be "cut" from a car after a van smashed into a house in Heywood on Wednesday evening.

Two vehicles, a van and a car, were involved in a collision on Pilsworth Road in Heywood just before 5pm on Wednesday evening, June 15. The van then smashed into a house, damaging the front of the property.

Pictures from the scene showed a window hanging precariously in its frame after the wall supporting the glass panel completely collapsed, with extensive damage to the front of the van. The Manchester Evening News understands that there was no one inside the property at the time of the collision

A second vehicle, a red Hyundai, was also damaged in the collision, with eyewitnesses reportedly seeing a man "cut out of his car" after it crashed into a wall further up the street. The road was completely blocked off whilst emergency services dealt with the incident, with traffic being turned around and away from the scene.

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed that a man had be freed from one of the vehicles, before being transferred to the care of North West Ambulance Service. A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “Just before 5pm this evening (15 June) firefighters were called to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on Pilsworth Road, Heywood.

“Two fire engines from Rochdale fire station, alongside the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, arrived quickly at the scene. Fire crews used specialist equipment to extricate one male casualty, who was conveyed to the care of our colleagues at North West Ambulance Service. GMFRS were at the scene for one and half hours.”

The condition of the man cut from a car is not yet known, Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
