Man City stance on Bernardo Silva transfer amid reports Barcelona have 'fee agreed'

Manchester City have not agreed a fee with Barcelona for Bernardo Silva, and still want to keep the midfielder this summer.

Barcelona have not hidden their intention to sign Bernardo, despite having well-publicised financial issues this summer, and City manager Pep Guardiola last week admitted he doesn't know if the playmaker will still be at the club after the transfer window closes.

Bernardo has wanted to leave City in the past for personal reasons, but has always remained professional and committed to the club, and while City are open to selling players who want to leave they will only do so if an acceptable offer is received.

Reports in Spain on Tuesday suggested that Barcelona had agreed a fee with City in the region of €50-55m, however, the Manchester Evening News has learned that is untrue and no offer has been received for Bernardo. City don't want to sell him, and if they did, they would require a significant transfer fee and would also need a replacement before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Guardiola said last week: "I would love if Bernardo could continue here because he's a special player for all of us in the locker room, but I don't know what is going to happen. What will happen is going to happen.

"If he stays, it is perfect. If in the end he has to leave it is because football is like this, the clubs have an agreement, the player has the desire and I will not be the reason to stop the desire.

"When you are a football player your life is so short. You don't realise and immediately it is over. At the same time. I'm just a little part of the club. What the club decides is ok for me."

City travel to Barcelona later this month for a charity match at the Nou Camp, a week before the transfer deadline, with Guardiola previously promising to take a full squad to Spain.
