Man arrested after cops search Wilmslow bars in 'Op Powdered' drugs crackdown

A man has been arrested after police visited a number of bars in Wilmslow as part of a drugs crackdown operation.

Cheshire Police headed out to seven licensed premises in the area on Saturday, August 13, as part of an operation targeting recreational drug use across Cheshire. Officers from the Macclesfield Local Policing Unit visited each of the bars with a drugs dog, searching four areas after the dog indicated they'd found something.

A 39-year-old man from Wilmslow was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine, before being released under investigation. The action was part of "Operation Powdered', a targeted scheme running across the summer to tackle drug-related crime and child criminal exploitation.

The Cheshire Policing team are heading to a different part of the county every weekend for six weeks, visiting pubs and bars to raise awareness of how recreational drugs play a part in fuelling criminal activity, child exploitation, and the detrimental impact on wider communities.

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Gouck said: “Any drug related activity will not be tolerated and this weekend has shown how we are doing all we can to crackdown on this crime. Recreational drug use is not just a one off, it is fuelling criminal activity around the county, abetting the exploitation of the most vulnerable in our society and lining the pockets of organised crime gangs.

“Not only this, but the ingredients in drugs such as cocaine are simply not fit for human consumption and contain the likes of poison and cleaning products. So I would urge those who do take ‘just a line of cocaine’ at the weekend to stop and just think about the wider picture of their actions.”

Cheshire Police urge people to report any drug activity from the region to them via their website, by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or by calling 101.
