A man charged with faking his own death — after his car was found abandoned in Adelaide's southern suburbs two weeks ago — has applied for home detention bail.
Jacob Norris, 22, appeared on Thursday in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court, charged with one count of creating a false belief his life was in danger.
Lawyers for Mr Norris asked the magistrate to order a home detention report to see if it would be suitable for him to stay at his grandfather's house during the prosecution.
The magistrate agreed, and adjourned the bail application until next week.
Mr Norris's car was found abandoned on the Esplanade at Aldinga Beach on July 13 and police believe he had gone into the water and not resurfaced.
They launched a large-scale water, ground and air search around the beach, but he was found more than 300 kilometres away at Quorn, in the Flinders Ranges, yesterday.
He was arrested on an outstanding warrant that was issued on July 21, after he failed to appear in court on an unrelated matter.
