The highest number of collisions happened between 4pm and 5pm, following which were 3pm and 4pm.
This was followed by 8am and 9am during the morning rush hour traffic when people go to work and 5pm and 6pm when people return home. Additionally, lunchtime between 1pm and 2pm was also deemed as a most likely time for collisions to happen.
Sean O’Neill of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, said: "The overall impact of a traffic accident which causes traffic delays is varied due to the severity of the incident and seasonality of the traffic levels, day of the week or the time of day."
He added that a serious accident could close the M50 as the emergency services deal with the incident and "and an alternative emergency bypass through local road network may be required to get traffic around that section of the M50".
