Love Island's Gemma Owen causes controversy after viewers spot 'phone blunder'

Several Love Island fans were very confused following last night's episode after spotting an 'issue' with an Islander's phone.

An eagle-eyed viewer shared a screenshot of Gemma Owen waking up in bed with her phone in her hand. Gemma's phone was locked on her home screen and the time read 5.33pm.

Sharing the image on Love Island Memes group on Facebook, the viewer said: "Why were they all saying morning and acting like they just woke up when Gemma’s phone clearly said 17:33?"

Several viewers shared their confusion following the episode, but fortunately, some Love Island mega-fans were on hand to address the controversy.

Rachael Loy said: "All their phones are set to a different time so they never know what the time actually is."

Jordan Clarke added: "Every phone displays a different time as they have no concept of time."

Former Islanders have confirmed that contestants aren't allowed to know what time it is while staying in the villa. Michael Griffiths from Liverpool told British GQ: "You get woken up early.

"We tried to make a sundial, but we still couldn’t figure out when."

Montana Brown added: "You never know what the time is. They'll wake you up by putting the lights on or a voiceover will say 'Islanders, it's time to get up'."
