Love Island's Gemma and Luca 'will split first' after mum's warning, says expert

With a £50,000 prize at stake, it's not unusual for the Love Island final to feature four couples who are exclusive.

The last weeks always see the L-bomb rain down, with villamates desperate to make it official before the music stops.

But once the big night is over and the real world - and temptation - beckons, those once-tight couples start dropping like flies.

So who will be first to crumble this year?

Fans predict trust issues for Ekin-Su and Davide, while Indiyah and Dami will need to work through his Casa capers. Tasha and Andrew have had a rocky ride to get here, while Luca and Gemma have been plagued by rows.

And body language and behaviour expert Darren Stanton says it's clear which pair will be saying 'sayonara'.

“I feel the couple who are the least compatible and will not last on the outside, I’m afraid to say, is Gemma and Luca," he tells The Mirror on behalf of Slingo.

“This is based on the fact that I think Luca has a lot of insecurities and a very short fuse, something I think Gemma is aware of but it may become more apparent on the outside. I also do not feel he is ready for a long-term full on relationship like the one Gemma appears to be seeking."

Another red flag, Darren says, was Gemma's mum's reaction to Luca when they met on last night's show. Gemma always warned Luca that she wouldn't be official girlfriend and boyfriend without her mum's approval, which leaves their future in uncertain territory.

Instead of giving them her blessing, Louise Owen warned her to 'see how it goes' on the outside.

Darren continued: "Based on the fact that Gemma‘s mum did not seem overly enthusiastic during the ‘meet the parent’s’ episode and she’s obviously very close with her daughter, I don’t think Gemma and Luca will last once back in the real world."

What's more, he believes Gemma has already started pulling away, explaining how she had little interest in the fact that her fellow Islanders had voted them least compatible.

Darren said: “When Luca and Gemma were talking to Dami and Indiyah about being voted the most incompatible, you could see Luca getting quite worked up in a few seconds whereas Gemma was so much more relaxed.

"While their body language was matching and mirroring as they sat back on the couch with one leg crossed over the other which is a good sign, I feel in Gemma‘s face you could see the frustration she felt. She was the first one to begin to disengage from the situation as she left the discussion and then Luca followed.

“Gemma also has certain gestures where she might roll her eyes or make a big sigh when communicating with Luca, so there does appear to be some frustrations there which could contribute to arguments and disagreements in the future.”

The Love Island final airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
