If you played sports, you know how tied to a jersey number you can be. Jewelry is made, lottery numbers are played, and license plates forged on a number that becomes near and dear to your heart.
But sometimes, a change is afoot for reasons only the person wearing the number knows. Take Ohio State cornerback Denzel Burke for instance. He wore No. 29 during his freshman campaign last fall but teased a change in jersey number on social media Friday. It looks like Burke will be going with No. 5 if his locker decal is any indication.
We don’t know what goes into the change, but with Garrett Wilson moving on to hopefully become a star in the NFL, and Marcus Williamson departing due to graduation, No. 5 is there for the taking.

The No. 5 has historically been seen more on the offensive side of the ball at Ohio State, but there have been a few wear it — Chimdi Chekwa comes to mind.
Good luck to Burke. Make that No. 5 stand out in 2021.
