Long Lost Family: Abandoned sisters reunited after both were left in hospital toilets at one week old

Two sisters who have spent their lives as separate foundlings have been reunited by ITVs Long Lost Family: Born Without a Trace. The show, hosted by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell, started its new series on Monday (May 23) with the story of 31-year-old Natasha Carr who sought help from the team after being abandoned at just one-week-old.

Back in 1989, Natasha was discovered in a hospital toilet cubicle in Lambeth and as they looked into her case the Long Lost Family team discovered something extraordinary. Natasha had a sister who was abandoned in the same way. The episode opens with Natasha showing viewers the clothes in which she was found in. She was left with a dress and a shawl cardigan, prompting her to question: "Where does [her] shawl come from?" She describes it as "quite unusual" as it is "handmade with a lot of detail put into it." Chatting about the clothes, Natasha says they are the only link she has to her birth mother.

Natasha, who was eventually adopted by the Carr family at the age of two, visits the cubicle in which she was found in emotional scenes. She breaks down, saying: "It makes me feel like I have a layer missing. Why me? It makes me think, what did I do? What did I not do?"

Following a chat with the search lead on the case, Nicky Campbell discovers that Natasha has a full blood-related sister - Lee-Ann, whom he is shocked to learn, was also a foundling. After chatting to Lee-Ann, Nicky realises that both her and Natasha's circumstances are near exactly the same with both being abandoned by their parents in hospital toilets.

When Davina tells Natasha that they have discovered that she has a full sister, she emotionally says: "I just can't wait to meet her." And so, the two arrange a meet-up in London.

When Lee-Ann is introduced to Natasha, the two embrace and the latter breaks down in floods of tears. They both exchange a similar white shawl cardigan that their mother left them before Natasha tells her sister that she has "no anger" towards their parents.

Lee-Ann, who had previously said that she felt there was a "void" in her life, is overjoyed that she has been reunited with her birth sister. She told her sister: "We'll have the support of each other now."

You can catch up with Long Lost Family: Born Without a Trace on ITV hub and the series continues next week.
