The Queen’s death: London Mourning in pictures

London Mourning | Sama Kai for ES Magazine (Picture: London Mourning | Sama Kai for ES Magazine)

In the week that Queen Elizabeth II was finally laid to rest, photographer Sama Kai hit the London streets - perfectly capturing the mood of our city in its unique grief. From children somberly laying flowers, to teddies perched on monuments and people straining with their iPhone cameras to capture the pageantry flowing between palaces, this was a remarkable time to bear witness to.

The queue (and the queue for the queue) may have subsided, and the period of official mourning lifted, but what we have is a collective feeling of having seen a different side to this town. A London of quiet reflection. Of unified grief. Of collective spirit.

After her 70 year rule, it's unlikely we'll see another time like this.
