Supermarket giants Asda and Morrisons are going toe-to-toe over reducing prices in the battle for customers during the cost of living crisis. Spiralling energy bills and soaring inflation is putting the squeeze on household budgets across the country.
Asda said more than 100 'family favourite' products have been cut in price and will remain 'locked' until the end of 2022 in a £73m investment in dealing with the crisis. Morrisons said it is reducing prices on more than 500 products.
Among the products being reduced across the two supermarkets are essential food items, including rice, meat, fruit and vegetables as well as household essentials such as nappies and toilet rolls. You can see a list of some of the items being reduced in prices in two tables below.
For Asda, on average, prices will reduce by 12 per cent and include staples such as John West tuna, dropping by 14 per cent from £3.50 to £3, and 500g of Asda easy cook rice which has dropped by 25 per cent down to 75p from £1.
Morrisons added that more than 180 additional products have been included in new and improved multi save promotions including a ‘Buy 2 for £1.80’ on cereals, a ‘Buy 2 for £3’ on breaded chicken and a ‘Buy 2 for £5’ on ready meals.
