Drivers are being warned about road closures and roadworks taking place across the North East this week.
This list covers areas including Newcastle, Northumberland, County Durham, Sunderland, Gateshead, North Tyneside and South Tyneside. According to traffic experts, some roads in the region will be fully closed, while others will have lane closures or temporary traffic measures. Diversion routes may also be in place in some areas.

Motorists are urged to take these closures into account and alter their travel arrangements if necessary. The following list is for the week from Monday, June 26, to Sunday, July 2.
Northumberland
A192 Newgate Street Northbound, Morpeth, closed due to roadworks from Manchester Street to B6343 Dogger Bank. Until 3pm on June 30.
B6344, Longframlington, in both directions closed due to telecoms work from Longframlington Turn Off to A697. Until June 30.
Green Lane, Ashington, in both directions closed due to roadworks between Chillingham Crescent and A196 North Seaton Road. Until December.
Sunderland
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A183 Whitburn Road, Seaburn, Whitburn, at Lowry Road (Morrison's roundabout). Until July 31.
Burdon Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks between Woodham Drive ( Ryhope , Sunderland) and Burdon Turn-off (Burdon, Sunderland). Construction of the new Ryhope to Doxford Link road. Until August 11.
Cedar Terrace, Washington, in both directions closed due to roadworks between Firtree Avenue and Pinewood Avenue. Until July 6.
Easington Street in both directions closed due to roadworks from Sheepfolds North to Wilson Street North. Until September.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Hylton Road, Pallion, in both directions at Bancroft Terrace. Until 5pm on July 14.
North Avenue, Washington, in both directions closed due to gas main work from South Avenue to Eskdale Crescent. Until 5pm on July 4.
Newcastle
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A186 Mosley Street, Grainger Town, at Dean Street. Until September.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1600 Stoddart Street, Shieldfield, between Shieldfield Lane and Union Street. Until December.
No through traffic allowed due to new road layout on Akenside Terrace in both directions from A1058 Jesmond Road to Brandling Court. Until September.
No through traffic allowed due to new road layout on Jesmond Dene Road, Jesmond, at Grosvenor Road. Until May 2025.
North Tyneside
Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on Liddell Street, North Shields, near Clive Street. Until May 2024.
Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on Park Road, Wallsend, in both directions between A193 High Street and Laurel Street. Until June 27.
South Tyneside
Princes Avenue, Whitburn, in both directions closed due to roadworks between B1291 Dykelands Road and Douglas Road. Until June 27.
Gateshead
Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) J65 / A194M Birtley. Expect delays. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until May 2025.
Birch Road, Blaydon-on-Tyne, in both directions closed due to roadworks between Hazel Road and Larch Road. Until September.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Blackfell Way, Birtley, near Robsons Way. Until July 24.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Cushy Cow Lane, Ryton, from Hexham Old Road to Mullen Drive. Until 5pm on July 3.
Hawks Road in both directions closed due to roadworks between Oakwellgate and Mill Road. Until August 4.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Hexham Old Road, Ryton, between Grange Drive and B6317. Until 5pm on July 3.
County Durham
Lambton View, Rainton Gate, in both directions closed due to roadworks from A690 to Station Road. Until August 4.
Pittington Road, Pittington, in both directions closed due to roadworks between A690 and Moorsley Road. Until August 11.
Wallnook Lane, Langley Park, in both directions closed due to roadworks between Front Terrace and Firs Terrace. Until December 2024.
