Lidl recalls sushi after allergy information left off packaging

Lidl shoppers have been advised to check their fridges after the supermarket issued an urgent recall of a ready-to-eat sushi pack.

All dates up to and including October 11 are included in the recall of the discounter's Select and Go Sushi Box Salmon and Shrimp, as they contain numerous allergens which are not stated on the package. According to a statement on the Food Standard's Agency website : "This product contains crustaceans, fish, mustard, sesame, soya, egg, wheat (gluten), milk and sulphites making it a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy to crustaceans, and/or fish, and/or mustard, and/or sesame, and/or soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg, and/or wheat or gluten, and/or milk or milk constituents, and/or anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

Lidl has already taken the sushi out of its fridges, but customers should check that the affected batch is not lurking in their home fridges to eat later. The product is safe to eat if you do not have any of the allergies listed above, but should not be eaten if you do.

The affected packs are 300g and state all use by dates up to and including October 11.

If you do find you have the sushi and you are unable to eat it, you should return it to store for a full refund, even without a receipt. No other Select and Go products are affected.

Products can be recalled for lots of different reasons - for example, this could be down to possible contamination, misleading or incorrect labels or, as in this case, allergens.

If you've bought a product that's been recalled, you have the right to a refund thanks to the Consumer Rights Act. The retailer that sold it should offer you a full refund, even if it's been in your cupboard or freezer for a while. Even if you've already consumed the product or thrown it away, you are still entitled to a refund if you can provide proof of purchase such as a receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation.
