Lexington council to address Hope Center's request to use $2 million in ARPA funds

The Hope Center is asking the city of Lexington to use 2-million dollars in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to expand its transitional housing. At a work session Tuesday, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council agreed to put the proposed memorandum of understanding on the full council’s docket.

Rufus Friday, the executive director of the Hope Center, briefed council members on the plan.

“We'll be adding to the current property and it won't be connected to the Hope Center’s centers emergency shelter building in itself. It will set on the same property set aside from it, but there'll be 72 transitional housing units there.”

Friday said one floor of the two-story building will have 24 beds for homeless veterans.

“The other 48 will be transitional housing that will be available for those that come to us that are homeless, and we can get into casework for programs to get them into employment, housing, permanent housing, rating, other mental issues that they're dealing with, we'll be able to provide those services.”

The full council must approve the memorandum of understanding for it to take effect.
