A large housing development has been approved for Canton at the site of the former Lansdowne Hospital. Cardiff council granted planning permission for the build, which will see 106 new homes built.
The works will go-ahead to the land east of Sanatorium Road and replace the former hospital, which suffered fire damage in April 2019. The development will consist of 33 one-bed apartments, 29 two-bed apartments, 12 two-bed homes, 24 three-bed homes, and eight four-bed homes. It will be split over three blocks.
In 2021, the cabinet approved jointly developing the site and adjoining council-owned land with Hafod Housing Association, after Hafod acquired the site in 2019. Thirty-eight of the new homes, or 40%, will be council-owned, while the remaining homes will be managed by Hafod.
