Lanarkshire woman to stand trial accused of killing baby nephew

An Uddingston woman is to stand trial accused of killing her young nephew by causing him to drown in a bath.

Kayleigh Kerr is charged with the culpable homicide of Logan Cruickshanks at a house in Easterhouse, Glasgow, on August 25, 2018.

Prosecutors claim Kerr did culpably and recklessly put the 10-month old child in an infant bath seat in the bath.

It is alleged the 25 year-old then filled the bath with an "excessive amount" of water than was stated on the "safety guidance" for the seat.

Kerr is further said to have repeatedly left Logan unattended and unsupervised.

The charge claims, by doing so, the woman did not follow the information regarding the use of the seat.

It is said Logan became "submerged" in the bath water and "died as a result of drowning".

Kerr faces an alternative charge under the Children and Young Persons Act of wilfully neglecting Logan that day.

Ali Murray, defending, pled not guilty on her behalf during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Mr Murray said: "I am prepared for trial. I can confirm I will be available for the date identified.

"I am comfortable that a trial could conclude in four days."

Prosecutor Alan Cameron said he was also ready for a trial to go ahead.

Lady Stacey set a trial due to begin in September. Kerr remains on bail meantime.
