Lanarkshire man escapes jail for breaching non-harassment order against ex-partner

A man phoned his former partner repeatedly despite a court ordering him to stay away from her.

John Carruth, 31, narrowly avoided a prison sentence at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He admitted breaching a non-harassment order by contacting the woman in East Kilbride on September 26 last year.

Carruth, of Buchandyke Road, East Kilbride, also admitted failing to comply with bail conditions imposed in June last year that also banned him having contact with her.

The two-year non-harassment order had been imposed at the same court in July 2021.

Sheriff Louise Gallacher placed Carruth under social work supervision for two years and ordered him to attend a domestic abuse programme.

The sheriff warned him that this was a direct alternative to a prison sentence and he must comply with all conditions.

She also imposed a fresh non-harassment order that prohibits Carruth from having any contact with his ex for two years.
