Lanarkshire man admits guilt after being caught red-handed doing drug deal

An East Kilbride man caught with cannabis worth up to £22,500 freely admitted to police officers that he sold the drug.

Alan Burnside was caught red-handed doing a deal with a customer in the town, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard.

Burnside, 31, of Ayton Park South, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis in Lindores Drive and at an address in Glenmoy, East Kilbride, on July 3, 2020.

Chloe O'Hara, prosecuting, said police had been tipped off about a car in relation to drugs activity.

Officers on patrol saw the vehicle turn into Lindores Drive about 4.20pm.

They watched a "transaction" take place between Burnside and another individual.

The officers approached the car and noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

Burnside admitted having drugs, adding: "Since lockdown I've been really struggling."

Cannabis, two mobile phones and cash were recovered from the vehicle.

Ms O'Hara told the court: "The accused then said there was cannabis at his girlfriend's home in Glenmoy.

"The house was searched and two bags containing cannabis weighing a total of two kilos were discovered.

"Police also found scales that had traces of herbal material.

"Burnside freely admitted that he sold cannabis and all of the items recovered belonged to him."

Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentence until next month for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.

Burnside had his bail continued.
