Lamborghini’s EV Will Be Its Most Powerful Model Ever

Lamborghini is still set on launching its first electric vehicle by 2030, and it could have up to 2,000 horsepower on tap when it arrives. That’s what Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume said in a recent interview, revealing that the EV will ride on a special platform developed by Porsche for the group’s luxury and performance brands. It will also underpin cars from Audi and Bentley.

“It’s a very specific setup for Lamborghini,” Blume told Autocar. The platform will also allow for up to 980 volts. The car will take inspiration from the Lanzador concept first shown in mid-2023. It debuted with a raised suspension and just two doors, which will carry over to the production version.

The concept had 1,341 horsepower, or one megawatt of power. Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the EV would make at least that much. It'll also have two electric motors, giving it all-wheel drive. The company will build the production Lanzador alongside its other models in Sant’Agata, Italy.

Lamborghini had initially planned to launch the EV in 2028, but pushed plans back a year. However, the CEO believes it’ll be a big seller once it goes on sale. Winkelmann told us he expects it to sell as well as the Temerario, the brand’s new entry-level model. Optimistic, considering Rimac CEO Mate Rimac admitted that high-end buyers don’t want electric supercars.

“I promise that it will be a typical Lamborghini, something very emotional," Blume added.
