The NBA announced on Monday that it had fined the Knicks $50,000 for violating league rules regarding equal access for media outlets.
The league said the Knicks did not give access to their post-draft news conference on Friday to the Daily News while allowing other media outlets credentialed to cover the team to attend.
The Knicks issued a statement acknowledging they did not comply with the media policy, adding they had "made an error in interpreting Friday's announcement as an invite only event. As we do throughout the year, we have and will continue to provide access to credentialed media as per the League's policy."
Last season the Knicks did not include the Daily News in a news conference and a conference call to which it invited other media outlets. Madison Square Garden long has had a strained relationship with the newspaper.
