A daredevil Lanarkshire family helped raise £18,000 for Spina Bifida Scotland by abseiling off the Falkirk Wheel last week.
Margaret Mckinnie was there with her son Connor, who was born with spina bifida occulta, and daughter Emily and husband Derek.
And they managed not only to raise some much-needed cash but awareness too, as they took the plunge from the 100ft landmark.
Connor, 14, was delighted that his youngster sister Emily could do the challenge with him.
Margaret told us: “It was an amazing day. They changed the age restriction so it meant my 11-year old daughter could do it as well.
“Connor did amazing, he had hurt his knee a few days before but was still determined to do it. It was scary at the top, we were glad to get to the bottom. We would probably do it again.
“It was a fabulous day, so many people came out to watch – some families, school people as well as people from our street. It was so nice to have them all there to support us.”
The family enjoyed the experience and admitted that they had been very lucky to have such good weather on the day.
Margaret added: “We will probably do one of the fundraisers again next year.”
Lynsey Hamilton, fundraising manager for the charity, told Lanarkshire Live: “We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was electric and our abseilers were up for the challenge.
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who donated to them. Each pound raised means a huge amount to us.
“The money raised at this challenge will go towards supporting children and families affected by the complex disabilities of spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus in Glasgow and throughout Scotland.”
She continued: “Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland have a big challenge ahead of us this year. We need to raise £1million to continue dedicated support to everyone who asks for our help and we can only do that through donations and amazing individuals taking part in challenge events.
“If anyone would like to try something new this year whilst making a big difference to a Scottish charity we’d love to hear from them.”
