Kilwinning Rangers rocked by resignation of chairman Colin Boyd

Kilwinning Rangers have been rocked by the resignation of chairman Colin Boyd.

Boyd announced on his own Facebook page this morning that he is stepping down after more than five years in the role.

His statement said: "After careful consideration and following discussions with my family, I feel it is the right time for me to step down as chairman of Kilwinning Rangers FC.

"I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve my local club for so many memorable years and I’m also incredibly proud of everything we achieved together.

"I managed the club with full commitment and integrity and know I’ve left the club in a better position than I found it.

"I want to thank the committee/volunteers, management and players, sponsors, local companies that helped out and the fans who make this club so special.

"To all the Buffs fans take care of the values of the club that we’ve worked hard to instil."

Boyd confirmed he will continue in his official roles as a board trustee at Kilwinning Sports Club and vice-chairman of the West of Scotland League.

This afternoon, the club issued a statement paying tribute to Boyd's service.

It read: "Colin has been in the role for over five years at the club and has played a major part in taking the team from Abbey Park to Buffs Park.

"His hard work and dedication to the club, and the wider community has been incredible throughout.

"His legacy will live on forever with The Claire Hub and the work carried out to improve the facilities at Buffs Park, Kilwinning Sports Club and of course gaining our full SFA Membership. Without Colin’s vision and determination The Buffs would never be where we are today.

"Under his stewardship the team won the Ayrshire Cup in 2018. Colin has given Kilwinning, a once junior football club, a professional football side the whole community can be proud of.

"We had hoped Colin would take some time to consider his resignation and continue to work with the rest of the commitee to continue to take The Buffs on the upward trajectory we have been on since the move from Abbey Park, however we respect his decision and would like to place on record our thanks to Colin for his tenure and he will always be welcome at Buffs Park.

"The club will communicate its next steps in due course."
