Jurgen Klopp makes hilarious admission over Chelsea’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp hilariously compared Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea to two lions fighting.

The Premier League pair squared off at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening, with each aiming to lift the first piece of domestic silverware of the 2021/22 season.

In the end, the Reds ran out victors via a penalty shootout - Kepa Arrizabalaga missing the decisive spot-kick.

Klopp was of course delighted to claim the trophy and speaking in his post-match press conference, praised the intensity and quality of the Wembley showdown.

The German said: "Facing Chelsea, come on. It was like two lions going for each other. It was absolutely crazy.

"They started better, we took over and were then better. Second half started again with two really good moments of Chelsea. We sorted it again.

"Everybody on the pitch was tired obviously and you have to get through it. Then the penalty shootout was one of the most spectacular I ever saw and absolutely great to win it like this."

Whilst it took until the penalty shootout for the game to be decided at Wembley, both sides did actually manage to find the net during the game.

Joel Matip thought he had given the Reds the lead, only to see his header ruled out by the VAR.

Elsewhere, Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz also found the net for the Blues - the linesman’s flag also denying the Chelsea pair.

Klopp revealed that he felt for the Blues, with his side being handed some good fortune by the officials.

He continued: "I’m not sure 100% but first-half was like 63% possession against Chelsea. It’s not that easy. A lot of good football stuff obviously.

"But over 120 minutes you cannot hold them back and away from your goal. They had chances and obviously scored goals, more than us, but they all were offside. That’s pretty harsh for them to take, I can imagine, but I’m really happy for all of the effort and these kinds of things."
