Singer Joss Stone wants to give up her dream life in the US because she’s hungering for her native Devon – missing its pubs and pasties.
The soul star settled in the music mecca of Nashville but now plans to come back to Blighty and enjoy traditional treats when daughter Violet, 18 months, is old enough for school.
Joss, pregnant with her second child, is hankering for pubs and Monster Munch – but she admits her local store stocks “PG Tips, baked beans, Bisto and shortbread”.
The Grammy-winning star, 35, said: “I miss the pubs. Being here, you notice that pubs make communities.
“Everybody goes there, not always for drinking but for socialising as families.
“Lots of things go on at pubs; kids’ events, music and dinners. It is a great way to meet people, I miss that. In Tennessee, there isn’t anything like that. There is a bar but it is not a wholesome family spot.”
Joss, who won last year’s Masked Singer dressed up as Sausage, was born in Dover but brought up in Cullompton, near Exeter.
She said: “Devon will always be home. I was brought up there, I always go back there and I have never really left my family home.
“We are probably going to stay for another year and just before Violet goes to school. We are going to come back home like a bird flying back to the nest.”
The singer, who performs in Las Vegas on Friday, relocated to the States amid health fears in her pregnancy with Violet.
Doctors warned that Violet was seriously underweight in her womb, leading Joss to put her life on hold to help her.
She had planned to return to Devon but the health woes meant she and American boyfriend Cody DaLuz turned a short-term stay for recording her album Never Forget My Love into something permanent.
She said: “That forced my hand. We found a place in a month, bought a massive sofa and I ate everything I saw, and just laid down.
“And I said, ‘Doc you are now my doctor – I’m not going home and we are going to deliver my massive baby!’
“The week before she was coming out, she grew to 6lb 14oz. It all worked out and I believe it’s because we stayed in Nashville.
“If we’d gone home she’d have been teeny-weeny and there would have been dramas. You have to go with your gut.”
Joss will play at Sandbar Poolside at Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas on Friday July 15. More information here.
