The son of new Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has taken up a new role at Borussia Monchengladbach.
From July 1, Nils Schmadtke will become the new sporting director license at Monchengladbach, thus leaving his position as chief scout at Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg.
Reports in Germany suggest the 34-year-old will work closely with the club's managing director of sport, Roland Virkus. And like his father on Merseyside, he is expected to have a busy summer, as Die Fohlen prepare for life under a new manager following the dismissal of former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke.
On Tuesday, Nils Schmadtke was unveiled alongside Gerardo Seoane, who has signed a three-year deal with Gladbach after taking over from Farke. Virkus said: "With these personnel decisions, we are broadening our position in the sporting directorate.

"Nils Schmadtke is taking over the organizational management of the license area. In future he will be part of the sporting management team of our license area alongside Steffen Korell (director of scouting and squad planning) and myself.
"We expect the reorganization of the development department under the leadership of Philipp Schützendorf to have lasting effects on the continuous improvement of our licensed players and our talents.”
WAZ suggest that one of the primary targets for Nils Schmadtke will be Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, who has been linked with Liverpool. The Netherlands Under-21 international was brought to Germany by Jorg Schmadtke, who was Wolfsburg's sporting director until January.
Jorg Schmadtke is still getting his feet under the table at the AXA Training Centre after replacing Julian Ward. But the Reds are already close to completing their first signing of the summer, with a medical medical scheduled for Alexis Mac Allister.
The Brighton & Hove Albion star is unlikely to be the sole midfield signing this summer by Jurgen Klopp. Another name who has been linked with a move to Merseyside is Manu Kone, who currently plays for Monchengladbach.
Should the rumoured Liverpool interest in Kone be genuine, it could lead the father and son to be in transfer negotiations between the clubs.
