RTE star Jennifer Zamparelli has told of her frustrations at being left stranded in the UK due to the arctic blast.
The Dubliner had to fly to Bristol last Friday to attend a family funeral on Monday – but was forced to go back home and come back to Dublin Airport on Sunday after hundreds of flights were cancelled at the weekend because of the cold snap.
Speaking to Aifric O'Connell, who had to fill in for Jennifer on the show at the last minute, she said: “I can’t believe what’s happened. The thing is we had to come to the UK for a family funeral so there was no way I wasn’t coming over for Monday, but we left on Friday to the airport, we were there for four hours… the joy of seeing the Breakfast crew in Terminal 2 as passing ships in the night… they were having an absolute ball.

“And then after four hours, five hours it was cancelled. Couldn’t get out on the Saturday, came back to the airport on Sunday, more delays… four hours, five hours.. finally get on the flight, made it to Bristol but now I’m stuck here and I can’t get back because the flights going back are an absolute nightmare.
“I got to the airport and the flight was delayed…. And now I have the two kids with me because Lau was in Bristol….. 12 o’clock, I found out the flight was cancelled and do you know who told me? My 80-year-old mother who is in Dublin who has the flight tracker app.
“She told me the flight was cancelled,” she said.
Jennifer said she got an email from Aer Lingus confirming her flight was cancelled – but the family couldn’t get their bags.
“Everyone knew except for the people who had our bags. We couldn’t get our bags,” she said.
She said she “wouldn’t take the risk” with two small kids to try and get the ferry, adding it was too far to travel.
