In a thrilling turn of events at the men's team gymnastics final, Japan emerged victorious by clinching the gold medal on the final rotation. With a total score of 259.594 points, Japan managed to outscore China, who finished with 259.062 points, settling for the silver medal. The United States secured the bronze with a score of 257.793, marking their first medal in this event in 16 years.

China, initially in a strong position to claim the gold, faced setbacks during the final rotation due to costly mistakes. Su Weide's performance was particularly disappointing, as he scored just 11.600 after falling twice, visibly affecting the team's chances.
