Janey Godley suffers insomnia following first chemo session after getting emotional during treatment

Janey Godley has restarted chemotherapy treatment and told fans it's already wreaking havoc with her sleep.

Just last week the Scots comedian announced that her cancer has returned and recent tests had shown signs of the disease in her abdomen, after being given the all clear in June.

She previously underwent six rounds of chemo but yesterday was her first after receiving her test results. The 61-year-old tweeted that she became emotional in the chemo ward as a traditional Christmas song came on and it made her feel nostalgic.

She wrote: "Someone is playing White Christmas on the chemo ward and now I am sitting here crying. Of all the places I thought I would be at this time of year, this isn’t one of them. Facing my life shortened by ovarian cancer and having all these nostalgic memories of Christmas past."

She later shared a selfie of herself lying in bed and captioned it: "Hello insomnia my old friend #chemo ", but said a good audio book was getting her through.

Sharing an update to fans on Instagram prior to her treatment, she said: "Hi everyone, Janey here, I hope you're well and I hope you're having a good day. I'm getting ready for Christmas and I can't wait. I can't wait to get these chemo sessions in so I can get fit and strong for my tour in February and March.

"Yeah it's not the news I wanted that the cancer is back but the news that I'm getting more chemo and more treatment and the Beatson is going to support me and getting this - what will be my last - comedy tour out there.

"I'm super excited, I just wanted to come online today and say Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all the people who have been holding me up and supporting me, if love and support was a cancer cure I would have been cured ages ago."

She added: "You have all been amazing and of course my family and my close pals. Have a lovely Christmas and a good New Year and hold your loved ones close - Can't wait to see you in February and March - I just can't wait to feel normal again and get back on stage."

At Christmas time last year, Janey found out that she had ovarian cancer after experiencing some symptoms of bloating and frequent urination. In January, she underwent a hysterectomy but was told she would need to undergo further treatment as her cancer had progressed to stage 3b.
