Singer James Blunt believed his Belfast audience thought he was joking when he accidentally said he was in Dublin.
The 47 year old You're Beautiful hitmaker revealed that the mortifying moment led to his keyboard player shouting at him during the gig.
The singer said that he now gets his tour manager to tell him which city he is in and has the name of the city printed at the top of his set lists.
James told the BBC: "I said, "It's great to be here in Dublin", which, as an ex-soldier is probably the wrong mistake to make.
"My keyboard player was shouting at me, "We're not in Dublin"."
James explained that the audience presumed the blunder was one of his famous ironic jokes he is often seen making on Twitter.
He said: "I think the audience thought it was a very badly delivered joke. I hope it came across that way."
James served four years in the armed forces after being sponsored through university on an Army bursary.
