ITV Coronation Street viewers call out Abi Franklin's 'unrealistic' birth scene

After she was left on the side of the road after an alcohol and drug fuelled bender with her friend Dean, Coronation Street fans were shocked to see Abi going into labour at just six months pregnant.

Begging her friend to take her to the hospital, Abi was in agony as Dean flew off in the car he stole from a customer in Kevin Webster's garage. Abi was then left to fend for herself as she desperately tried to wave down passing cars.

Eventually, Abi made it to the hospital where she admits she didn't know she was pregnant as she was still receiving her periods and had not had sex in six months. She was also forced to tell nurses of all the substances she had taken with Dean as it would be vital to the babies health and care.

Later that evening, Abi gave birth to a boy who had to be taken to intensive care as he had difficulties breathing. Despite the drama unfolding, eagle-eyed fans were more taken back by the way she gave birth.

"Giving birth sitting upright. How does that work> Worst birth scene I have ever seen. Come on Corrie, you can do better than this," Yvonne on Facebook said. "Why was Abi sitting up to give birth? Shouldn’t she have been lying on her back? #Corrie," @LilMissMystic tweeted.

Abi gave the nurses a fake name and shortly after they left, disappeared from the hospital. She soon made her way back home to ex-husband Kevin, leaving her new-born son behind. Fans were also taken back by her sudden departure, with @sas.1905 tweeting: "Oh my word how unrealistic was that? Then she went home in the same clothes and didn't even change or shower!!"
