Residents in Beeston say ‘it’s crazy’ as roadworks are taking place for the next six weeks on Queens Road.
Nottinghamshire County Council are putting in new four way traffic signals at the Queens Road junction in Beeston which 'should provide a reliable service for years to come'.
There are four way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Queens Road and Station Road, Beeston.
These works started yesterday (March 7) and will be there for six weeks until April 17.
Michael Orchard, a 70 year-old who is retired and from Beeston, told Nottinghamshire Live that he think the works should be done at another time.
Mr Orchard said: ”It’s a pain in the backside.
“I don't see why they can’t do it at night - it will have less of an impact on commuters.
“It takes my daughter three times as long to get onto the main road.
“I think it’s crazy.
“It’s a major road - most people are local and know all of the shortcuts.
“Why not do it at night?
“Why does it take so long for six weeks? It’s strange.
“It’s crazy.”
Margaret Pearson, who is 65 and a retired nurse from Beeston said that these lights can't be avoided.
“It’s a busy road - there’s a lot of work going on," she said.
“I regularly drive down here - you can’t really avoid these lights you’ll still have to wait.
“I didn’t realise it was for six weeks.”
A Beeston resident named Sharon says she’s not looking forward to the next six weeks of roadworks.
“I know it started yesterday.
“I went to Chilwell and back - it was really congested.
“I’m not looking forward to the next six weeks.”
Nottinghamshire County Council’s Head of Highways and Transport, Gary Wood, said: “Over the next six weeks, works are taking place to replace the four-way traffic signals at the Queens Road and Station Road junction in Beeston.
“Temporary traffic signals will be in place throughout the works, although these will be manually controlled at peak times to keep traffic moving as freely as possible.
“There will also be some lane restrictions in place, but these will be limited to off-peak periods.
“Whilst we do expect road users to experience some delays, we will do all that we can to minimise disruption during the works and the new signals should provide a reliable service for years to come.”
