Is Trios back in Fortnite? Three player mode returns after two week downtime

Mere weeks after its sudden removal, Epic Games has brought Trios back to Fortnite, with an announcement just as out of the blue as the announcement of the modes removal.

Players who considered giving up on Fortnite after the removal of Trios Battle Royale and Zero Build modes in Fortnite Update 24.40 can once again rest easy. Out of nowhere Epic Games has suddenly brought back the mode, announcing the move in a Tweet on the @FortniteGame Twitter account. The Tweet in question doesn't offer any context outside of that, such as why the mode is suddenly back weeks later, or why it was even removed in the first place, but I'm not complaining, I'm just happy to see it back.

Best of all, the mode is back right now, no waiting about for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3. You can grab two pals and jump off the Battle Bus right now and enjoy all Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 still has to offer before it ends on Friday, June 9. For example, you can form up a team of three Eren Jaeger skins and use all of the new Fortnite x Spider-Verse items. The mode isn't available in Fortnite Ranked, however, which is still limited to Battle Royale Solos, Duos, and Squads as well as Zero Build Duos, but perhaps Trios may join the Fortnite Ranked lineup during the next Ranked season.

Three is (once again) the magic number

Well that was quick. I had speculated Trios removal in the first place was to funnel the player base towards the game modes featured in the then-new Fortnite Ranked mode, but I guess Epic Games has seen the player numbers for the new mode and realised there isn't anything to worry about.

Obviously Epic Games knows more about Fortnite than any of us and very likely had a reason to remove the mode, but it was majorly disappointing to see Trios removed two weeks ago, so I'm happy to see Epic Games roll this decision back.

Obviously Trios are far less common than Squads and Duos, but the complete removal of the mode meant those Trios players either had to lose or gain a player, which is more faff than it's worth when you can just switch to another Battle Royale title like Apex Legends which treats its Trios as a priority. Regardless, good job to Epic Games for listening to player feedback and acting on it so quickly.
