An injured climber was rescued by emergency crews after falling from a Scots mountain.
The incident took place around 5.30pm on Friday, January 20 when Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team were alerted to a 21-year-old man having fallen on Buachaille, situated at the head of Glen Etive in the Highlands.
The team raced to the 956-metre peak, which is popular with ramblers, when the climber's male walking partner raised the alarm after the pair fell high up on the mountain.
Crews soon encountered some trouble, however, as the position of the couple on the hill was challenging to access. The entire circuit is 8km, and the hike normally takes around five hours to complete, which added to their troubles.
A helicopter was requested and dispatched from Inverness to airlift the victim to safety and prevent both them and their counterpart from encountering further trouble.
Photos taken at the scene, which were shared on social media, show a squad of rescuers decked out in high-vis, waterproof clothing, head torches, helmets and other safety gear assembling at the base of the mountain.
A van is parked on site filled with medical and technical climbing equipment, which two small parties of volunteers prepared while waiting on the helicopter.
The stricken adventurer was airlifted to Belford Hospital in Fort William and the other man was also airlifted to safety. The extent of their injuries, as well as their current condition, is not yet known.
A Glencoe MRT spokesperson said: "Another busy week for the team with two callouts and an evening training session on basic life support.
"There were two full team jobs this week both to The Buachaille, one involving an injured climber and the second a false alarm with good intent.
"In the other incident, GMR was alerted to shouts of what sounded like "help" on the lower slopes of the Buachaille. Prepared for the worst, a team headed out onto the hill.
"A drone was put up to conduct a search and quickly found the party responsible. Our drone pilot was able to direct the hill team to the party.
"Thankfully they had been shouting to each other and did not require assistance. We would like to thank the group who raised the alarm, it is always reassuring to know that folks are looking out for each other on the hill."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.20pm on Friday, 20 January, 2023, officers received a report of an injured man on Buachaille Etive Mor, North Buttress.
"Mountain rescue teams and HM Coastguard attended and the 21-year-old man was airlifted to Belford Hospital in Fort William. Another man was also airlifted to safety."
