A pair of influencer twin sisters suffered a tragic car accident with only one making it out alive.
Lara Cleaver Afonso, 26, was killed in the crash after her car overturned on a bend and she was thrown from the vehicle.
The Instagram model was driving while her twin sister Dara Cleaver Afonso was in the passenger seat and their cousin Vitória Molina Leite da Silva, 25, was in the back.
Lara and Dara were heading home to take part in a photoshoot on the morning of the fatal accident, according to reports from Brazil.
They were one their way back from a ranch in Guaraci when Lara reportedly lost control on a tight bend, flipping the car.
The incident took place on the Armando Salles de Oliveira highway between Guaraci and Olímpia in Sao Paulo State, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Lara was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned, and suffered multiple fractures that led to her death, it is understood.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and suspect that Lara fell asleep at the wheel, according to local reports.
Paramedics scrambled to save the influencer at the scene and she was sent to a hospital in Olímpia, but soon succumbed to her injuries.
Her twin sister was taken to the Hospital de Base de São José do Rio Preto where she underwent surgery and remains under observation.
The sisters’ cousin sustained minor injuries in the accident and has been discharged from hospital.
Lara and Dara have an Instagram page with 10,000 followers and are also present on TikTok where they shared updates on their daily lives.
On Monday, Lara was buried in Olímpia and an investigation remains ongoing.
Tributes have been pouring out on Instagram from fans and condolences paid to her family.
“My condolences to all the family members. I don't know how to identify in the photo. Identical," one follower said.
“Unbelievable, what happened! Life is a blow! My condolences to Lara's family and friends!” another commented.
“Too much exposure from the girls and that's not good. My condolences to the family and I hope Dara recovers,” a third wrote.
“My condolences to the whole family at this difficult time.”
Another user added: “My sincere sympathies! Until now I can't believe it! Rest in peace Laura! And I will continue to pray for your sister.”
