Imagine trading for Carson Wentz in the year 2022. Yikes!

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

The Washington Football team – sorry, the Washington Commanders – are who we thought they were – one of the worst franchises in all of sports that is run by one of the most despicable owners in all of sports.

And you know what? The fans of this one-proud franchise that used to win Super Bowls deserve so much better than what they get from this team day after day and now year after year.

Imagine waking up today as a Washington football fan and having to somehow come to terms with the fact that your team went out and traded for Carson Wentz to be your next QB.

In the year 2022.

Ooooof.

That’s exactly what happened yesterday and once again everyone who has ever watched a football game hopped on social media and made fun of the Commanders.

I guess when you get a chance to get the guy whose last game was a loss in a must-win Week 18 game against the Jaguars you do whatever it takes to get that man!

Or something like that.

Nothing says BLAH more than going out and getting Wentz to be your QB. The Colts at one point last season looked like one of the best teams in the AFC but then collapsed down the stretch mostly because of Wentz. That loss to the Jaguars was one of the worst losses you’ll ever see. Just no way they should have lost that game and missed out on the playoffs because of it. But that’s exactly what they did and that’s exactly why the Colts couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

By trading for Wentz the Commanders are basically telling their fans that they are hoping, at best, to be a mediocre team in 2022. There are no NFC East title hopes. There are no Super Bowl hopes. There really isn’t any hope, which is something this fanbase has sadly grown used to over the years.

On Tuesday morning we found out that Aaron Rodgers was sticking with the Packers.

On Tuesday afternoon we found out that Russell Wilson was being traded to the Broncos.

On Wednesday afternoon we found out that Washington was trading for… Wentz.

That basically sums up where the Commanders are in the football world – nothing to be taken too seriously by all the other teams in the league.

And that’s a shame, because their fans don’t deserve any of this.
