New photos from the Edinburgh Royal Highland Centre shows hundreds of unclaimed and delayed suitcases stacked side-by-side awaiting reclaim.
“It's like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. And this is just Edinburgh,” the Tweet’s caption said. Another user was also baffled by the scale of missing luggage .
“450 bags in that shot in a 20,000 square foot warehouse for an airport that does about one million passengers a month? What is the normal loss percentage?” the user commented.
Edinburgh Airport previously announced in July that unclaimed luggage handled by Swissport would be moved from Edinburgh Airport’s terminal to a secure warehouse facility at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston, which is near the airport and about 30 minutes outside of Edinburgh city centre.

Last week, the airport announced that unclaimed luggage handled by Menzies would also be moved to the facility for reclaim and collection.
“Your airline's contracted handling agent is responsible for baggage, not Edinburgh Airport, and passengers with any queries should contact the relevant agent,” the airport said.
“While unable to help with baggage queries, our customer support teams can help with questions on a range of different things such as parking, security, and special assistance. Visit the contact us page of our website where you can find further information and access to the live chat function.”
The airport announced that the Royal Highland Centre luggage facility will be open each day from 9.00am to 5.00pm and parking is available in the North Car Park.
Passengers must take along their luggage tags and identification to access the area. Without this staff will be unable to return bags. No appointment is required.
Edinburgh Live contacted Swissport and Menzies for comment and statistics about the scale of unclaimed baggage in Edinburgh.
A spokeswoman for Menzies Aviation said: “At Menzies Aviation, we always strive to uphold our high service standards for our airline customers and their passengers, despite the current supply chain issues affecting the entire aviation industry. To deal with the current challenges at Edinburgh Airport, which are largely caused by the unprecedented volume of delayed baggage, we have a dedicated team working hard to reunite passengers with their luggage.
"All lost baggage has been held securely at the Royal Highland Showground (RHS), where passengers can identify their bags in person. At this point in time, the baggage situation at EDI is easing and we will be setting up a luggage hold centre in a smaller facility. We understand the distress and frustration that being separated from luggage can cause passengers, and we are committed to reuniting passengers with their bags as quickly as possible.”
