As negotiations continue for a new Basic Agreement between IATSE and AMPTP, the Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700) has reached a tentative agreement on its craft-specific proposals. This development was communicated to members in an email on Friday night. With this agreement, eight locals, including the three largest ones - the Editors Guild, International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600), and Art Directors Guild (Local 800) - have all secured tentative deals with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The Editors Guild had initially planned for three days of bargaining on its issues but extended the negotiations to a total of five days to reach a consensus. The AMPTP has allocated five weeks to focus solely on local negotiations, sometimes holding simultaneous meetings with two guilds to allow for more productive discussions.
Following the current break in negotiations for caucus meetings, the two sides will reconvene for two additional weeks of local bargaining. Other recent announcements of tentative deals include Local 871, which represents script supervisors, writers' assistants, and accountants.
Basic Agreement negotiations, set to address AI, pension and health funding, and other significant matters, are scheduled to commence on April 29. The existing Basic Agreement is due to expire on July 31. While the local agreements are in place, they are not binding until the entire Basic Agreement is ratified, a process IATSE aims to complete before the July 31 deadline.
Furthermore, the AMPTP must also finalize agreements with Teamsters Local 399 and the other Basic Crafts unions, which encompass electrical workers and laborers.
