Surely nothing could go wrong with strawberries, yoghurt and honey, right?
Another day, another viral hack from TikTok suggesting my life will be better if I follow the suggested video. I've been led astray one too many times by the platform, whether it's on the basis of food, shopping, or daily living. Although it's normally food.
The latest in training material was the "snack of the summer": fresh strawberries, coated in honey and Greek yoghurt, frozen until hard then dipped in chocolate. It felt like a low-risk venture compared to the typical kitchen storms it asks you to whip up so I thought why not?

There's no official name for the item so for the sake of this article, let's call it a fruit snack. The most engaging aspect of the fruit snack was how refreshing I expected it to taste. With outside temperatures bubbling around 20 degrees at the moment and the ingredients consisting of summer goodness, I had high expectations.
For the sake of variation, I also purchased raspberries as they're my favourite fruit and flavour in general. All you have to do is thoroughly wash your fruit, finely chop them, throw everything into a bowl, scoop out the size and shape you'd like then leave to chill.
After melting some cooking chocolate, take the fruit bites and lightly coat them and dig in. Once my own creations were ready to taste, I dived straight in to pick them up and they instantly fell apart. After several more attempts, the snack of the summer became a bowl of horrors as it began to mush together.
In terms of appearance, it looked like a big brown mess of you-know-what. Whether it was due to the layer of chocolate not being thick enough to hold it, who knows, but I still salvaged a piece to taste. I initially taste-tested the mixture in the bowl before it went in to chill and it was delicious. Somewhere along the way, whether it was the chilling process or chocolate, the final product tasted bland and a bit odd as none of the key flavours were present.
It was difficult to eat given the texture and mess it began to make although I did scoop another few mouthfuls with a spoon to ensure I was being fair. It was still under par and a long way away from earning the title of Snack of the Summer. Maybe a few more attempts and changes to the recipe could bring it together somehow but I think I'll keep the individual ingredients separate for the time being.
